CSS Subjects
CSS comprises of Compulsory and Optional Subjects. The total CSS exam is of 1200 marks. 600 marks is of compulsory papers and you can choose optional subjects of further 600 marks of your own choice. There will be two papers of 100 marks each of the subjects which carry 200 marks. In other subjects there will be one paper. Each paper will be of 3 hours duration.
Punjabi, Sindhi, Pushto, Balochi, Persian and Arabic should be answered in the respective languages or in Urdu/English as long as there is no mention of any direction in the question paper. The question. However, Islamiat paper is to be answered in English or Urdu. Not following these rules can have severe consequences resulting in cancellation of paper or marking a ZERO for the respective paper.
A candidate who does not appear in any compulsory subject will not be allowed to appear in the remaining papers of the Examination.

Note: The Non-Muslim candidates have the option either to take Islamiat as one of the compulsory subject or otherwise Pakistan Affairs (G.K. Paper-III) will be treated of 200 marks in their case and half of the total marks obtained by them in the paper on Pakistan Affairs (G.K. Paper-III) will be counted in lieu of Islamiat.

OPTIONAL SUBJECTS.
The candidates are required to select optional subjects carrying a total of 600 marks, but not more than 200 marks from a single group as per the FPSC rules.
Group A: Business Administration cannot be opted in combination with Public Administration
Group F: International Law CANNOT BE opted in combination with International Relations.
Group H : Not more than one subject can be seleced
Group I : Not more than one subject can be seleced
